Mary picked up the phone and dialed Bruno’s previous owner, determined to get some clarity. After a few rings, a woman answered. “Hello, is this Mrs. Anderson?” Mary asked politely. “Yes,” the woman confirmed. “I’m calling from the shelter about Bruno,” Mary continued, her voice steady yet gentle. “We were hoping you could share some insight into the reasons behind returning him.”

The phone conversation started off uneventfully, but Mary quickly picked up on a hint of hesitation in the owner’s voice. “Well, he just didn’t fit with our family,” Mrs. Anderson said, her tone edged with nervousness. Sensing there was more beneath the surface, Mary gently pressed for details, determined to uncover the truth. ‘There has to be more to this,’ Mary thought. Yet Mrs. Anderson remained vague, dodging questions and offering little clarity before abruptly ending the call, leaving Mary with more questions than answers.
