Jake and I crept back inside after Karen gone, ready to ask the staff questions. In the hopes that she wouldn’t find us, we hurried to the room. We stepped back into the suite and took a deep breath. “That was pretty close,” Jake said, laughing. Avoiding every clue Karen was trying to find made it feel like we were in a detective fiction.

The Tension Builds
Once more, there was a hint of strain inside. We made the decision to set up a board game to alter the mood. In an attempt to calm me down, Jake put the pieces together. “This will be enjoyable,” he assured. Our world briefly reduced to just the two of us while we were playing. The narrative Karen was frantically trying to uncover was momentarily obscured by our laughing as it echoed off the walls.
