Karen’s Frustrated Escalation
Karen called again, her voice growing more urgent. As I responded, Jake mouthed the words “here we go.” “This is definitely wrong,” she grumbled. I promised her quietly that we will soon remedy it. “She’s like a detective on our case now,” Jake said with a laugh after hanging up. Even while the tension persisted, our comfortable suite and time spent together made every call worthwhile.

In order to get the hotel personnel ready for any questions, Jake and I made the decision to check with them one final time. The receptionist recognized the game we were playing and nodded. She smiled knowingly and reassured him, “We’ve got it covered.” Feeling lighter, I made my way back to our room. Despite the amusing turn our wedding night had taken, the staff was on our side.
