A Chaotic Reception
I had hoped that after supper, things would settle down, but Karen kept up her performance. She pointed out what she would have done differently and angrily critiqued the dishes. She would say, “If this was my wedding,” to her bemused cousins. Whispers followed her everywhere. It was turning into a difficult but important aspect of our special day. Jake quickly squeezed my hand in an attempt to soothe me, and we both made an effort to have fun that evening.

Karen’s Honeymoon Suite Demand
Jake and I were seated when I heard a tap on my shoulder. Karen’s voice could be clearly heard. She said, “You have to let me stay in the honeymoon suite,” as though she had the right to. I blinked, startled, not knowing how to react. She went on to say, “It’s tradition in some cultures,” Jake turned to face me, preparing to step in, but I simply grinned at Karen and replied, “Sure, if it means that much to you.”
