Strangely ancient
The creature’s small, scaly body looked strangely ancient, almost prehistoric, as Dr. Lewis squinted and tilted his head back and forth to take in every detail. “It looks like something out of a history book,” he mused, while Jane and Tom exchanged worried glances. “What do you think, Doctor?” Tom asked, barely concealing his concern. Dr. Lewis didn’t answer immediately, but focused his full attention on the unusual specimen in front of him.

Dr. Lewis reached for his reference books and hastily flipped through the pages. “I need to look something up,” he murmured as his fingers flitted over the paper. Sarah craned her neck curiously to catch a glimpse of the books, but Jane gently held her back. With each page she turned, the vet’s brow furrowed even more. “There’s never been anything like this before,” he whispered quietly, not wanting to worry the already anxious family any further. The room sank into silence, interrupted only by the soft rustling of the pages.
