We all stayed riveted to our chairs, enthralled. We were ensnared in that eerie yet enchanted instant between curiosity and horror. Do you believe he will be alright? One of the tourists muttered, her voice almost audible. The sole response was the unspoken consensus that Jake’s approaching proximity was both amazing and scary. Someone else said, “What if…” but the tension that engulfed us and dragged us to the brink overshadowed their words.

An Ominous Growl
The lioness was just a few feet away now, and her deep, rumbling roar sent chills down my spine as she bared her teeth. Someone whispered, “Back up, Jake,” and gripped the edge of their seat. Jake, however, stayed as composed as ever—almost as though he were in a trance. He never took his eyes off the lioness. She appeared to be caught between reprimanding him and looking for some unidentified source of solace. Her every breath seemed like a bomb ready to detonate.
