Jake was not going to back down. Rather, he lowered himself until he was eye level with the lioness. Softly, “Let me help,” he murmured. He showed courage that left us speechless. As Jake got closer, every second seemed to drag on forever. The lioness’s snarls started to soften into gentler pants as if she could sense his sincerity. Uncertainty hovered in the air, and every breath the company took was a collective gasp. We prayed in hushed tones behind clasped hands, praying for a miracle, and we were afraid for Jake.

Sudden Rustling
Then suddenly there was a rustling noise coming from the woods nearby. Like synchronized dancers, everyone’s heads whirled around, their eyes searching for the source. Someone whispered in a panicked voice, “What was that?” The gathering was surrounded by a stifling shroud of anxiety. Even Jake stopped and glanced swiftly toward the direction of the scream, but he managed not to react. Fear was increased by the rustling, which hinted at other shocks that may be hiding in plain sight.
