The Realization
It seemed like the earth had been torn out from under me when I learned that my stepdad was planning to embezzle my $4 million inheritance. I trusted someone, even a member of my family, and they were prepared to betray me in exchange for money. I didn’t panic, though. I didn’t blow up. Rather, I played it wisely because I’d witnessed enough individuals lose everything due to rash decisions. Not me. Though he was unaware of what was about to happen, he believed he had the advantage. For I had a scheme, a scheme that would make him regret ever attempting to betray me.
The Realization
Tom Takes Over
It seems like a switch was flicked suddenly after Mom and Tom were married. After moving in with his bed and boxes, Tom pretended to be the owner. His words would be, “This will be better over here,” indicating the television. I began to feel like I could only breathe in my room. I kept a tight eye on him, noticing every little alteration he made. He seemed to want to throw his shadow over everything that should have been ours.
