Using a list of legal companies from Tom’s business cards, Jake and I sat in my room the next morning. I smiled and dialed the first number, saying, “All right, let’s pretend we need some legal advice.” Jake gave a nod. He was prepared to leap in and support me. We acted like potential customers whenever a receptionist answered the phone in the hopes of catching a hint regarding Tom’s participation. It was time to use our imagination.
