John was glad that there were no health problems, but he was also frustrated. “At least you’re alright,” he said Emily as he gave her a firm embrace. The nagging suspicion that something was still wrong persisted. Max’s actions were too unpredictable to overlook. Even though he was relieved Emily was well, Max’s anxiety’s cause remained a mystery. Trying to remain upbeat, he said, “We’ll figure it out.”

Emily’s theory
Emily attributed her physical exhaustion on Max’s overprotectiveness and anxiousness. She sat down hard on the couch and said, “Maybe I’m just exhausted from dealing with all this.” Max clambered up next her right away, pressing his body against hers. John said, “You’ve been through a lot.” Emily agreed, but she couldn’t help but believe that Max’s actions were hinting at something more. “Stress can do weird things to the body.”
