Susie’s Inquiry
As I reached the end of the hall, Susie from accounting stopped me. Her eyes were laced with concern as she asked, “Hey, are you okay? I heard some rumors.” I hesitated, debating how much to reveal. Forcing a smile, I replied, “I’m fine. Just had a meeting with HR—nothing major.” But Susie wasn’t buying it. The slight arch of her eyebrow suggested she knew more than she was letting on. “Alright,” she said finally, not pressing further, though her expression lingered with doubt.

Assuring Susie
Though Susie’s concern was unmistakable, I tried to dismiss her worried expression with a casual tone. “You know how these things go,” I said, attempting to deflect the focus from myself. She gave a hesitant nod, her doubt still evident. “If you say so,” she murmured, stepping aside to let me pass. As we parted, her question lingered, leaving an uneasy weight in its wake. I could only hope the rest of the office wouldn’t be as inquisitive.
