Hiding behind a barrel
Suddenly, a floorboard beneath Officer Jack’s position gave way with a loud crash, clattering down to the ground floor. Instinctively, he scrambled backward and dove behind a large barrel, heart racing. Every muscle was tense, and his mind raced with possibilities—what would happen if the men discovered him? If they were engaged in illegal activities, one lone officer could be in serious danger. He pressed himself against the barrel, holding his breath and hoping that his presence remained undetected.

To Jack’s surprise, instead of investigating the noise, the men bolted. Within moments, the factory was completely deserted. From his hidden position, Jack could see them rushing out of the building, Michael included, moving with a speed and urgency that suggested genuine fear. But what were they so afraid of? They had no reason to know the police were inside, yet their reaction was instinctively panicked, as if some invisible threat had suddenly become very real to them.
