Neon Light

Clifton’s Cafeteria is one of the oldest establishments in Los Angeles and is situated in a historic building. When the owner decided to renovate the bathroom, he found the weirdest thing: a neon light. The weirdest part was that the light was still on. Experts are saying that the light had probably been on for 77 years straight, making it the longest lit neon light in the world. The owner reckons that the light was first lit in 1935 when the building was converted into a forest-themed diner. However, the owner quickly realized that he had probably paid around $17,000 in electrical bills because of the light. This case seriously baffled experts, since neon lights aren’t known to work for longer than 40 years straight.

Nazi Documents

A couple in Hungary was amazed when they discovered some top-secret Nazi documents that were hidden in their walls. During a renovation, the couple found over 6,000 Nazi documents in their walls, all from the Third Reich. The documents contain details about the holocaust, specifically, a census to count Jews and designate homes which they could be moved into before they were moved into ghettos within Budapest. Naturally, scholars very much value this new insight into the past as documents like these are incredibly rare. Most of these kinds of documents were destroyed by the Nazis when they knew they’d fall into enemy hands. It seems that whoever was in charge of these papers decided to hide them in the walls instead of actually destroying them. The census was undertaken two months before the Nazis occupied Hungary. According to official numbers, 600,000 Hungarian Jews were killed in the holocaust.
