Emperor Nero

At the age of 17, Nero succeeded the throne of the Roman Emperor. He is the last one to do so in the Julio-Claudian dynasty. During his fifth year, he ordered the death of his mother and became more active in politics. Did you know that he was also a poet, musician, actor, and charioteer? People could not take him seriously because of this. He was hated by the middle and upper classes because he raised taxes to fund public and private works around the empire.

Before he was killed, he announced, “What an artist dies in me!”
