My spouse tried to reassure me during the anxious speech by giving me a gentle shoulder squeeze as I listened. Unaware of or unconcerned by the discomfort in the room, Dad went on talking. Curious, wide-eyed, and eager to see where this was all going, the guests moved in their chairs. On a day that should have been filled with excitement, everyone appeared to clutch their breath, unsure of how this unexpected outburst would play out.
