Taking off his goggles
Ethan took off his goggles, hurriedly wiping them in an attempt to clear his blurred vision. “Come on, come on,” he muttered, forcing himself to remain calm as panic threatened to overtake him. He sank his feet into the water and, eyes fixed, searched intently, turning his head in all directions. He needed to spot them quickly, before his strength deserted him. He strained his vision as much as he could, hoping to see the familiar outline of the boat cutting through the waves, but all he found was the vast, empty horizon.

Struggling to stay afloat
The waves battered Ethan, splashing his face with salt water and making every breath a struggle. He gasped for air between the waves’ blows, struggling to keep his head above water. “Come on, Ethan, keep it together,” he muttered, trying to control the panic that was overtaking him. With each new wave, he was knocked down, struggling not to sink as the currents dragged him along. He quickly wiped the salt from his eyes and tried, with difficulty, to find his bearings in the raging sea.
