With no land in sight, Ethan knew he couldn’t waste what energy he had left. He lay in the water again, trying to float and keep hope alive. “Stay calm, stay focused,” he repeated to himself, despite the panic boiling just below the surface. He breathed deeply, trying to regain his strength as the waves rocked him incessantly. He had to trust that his team was out there, that somewhere they would find him before it was too late.

On the boat, Clair stared at the horizon, desperate for any sign of Ethan. Suddenly, she spotted something in the distance, without being able to identify what it was. “Hey, over there!” she shouted, calling the crew to her side of the deck. “I see something!” The crew ran to her, rushing to look through the binoculars to confirm what she had seen.
